Submit to database: executing invisible rules...?

    Hi,

I encountered weird problem, hopefully someone has a logical explanation for it.

I have database form and on submit button I have rule that will use the main connection to send data to database. I bypassed all the other rules. Yet I have field in my form that changes value when I press this submit button? How is that possible!?! I deleted all JScripts to ensure that there shouldn't be any rules that could change the value in the field. But still it changes...

On the other hand, I also tried removing only this submitting rule and everything works fine. So how can this submitting to database change field values in my form (note that this field is custom field and its value will not even get sent to database)

Are you using InfoPath 2007? If so, you can right click on the field that is getting changed and use the logic inspector (rule inspector in IP 2010) to see what may be causing this field change. If you'd like, attach your template and let me know what field is changing, and I'm happy to take a look for you.

    Thank you Hilary,

Luckily this problem is now solved and I get to familiarize myself with logic inspector :)

Of course, checking the rules there shouldn't matter since pressing the button doesn't execute but submit thru main connection. Anyhow the problem is in database functionality which adds blank spaces in the end of field values and therefore the value changes in the form (and in my case triggered whole lot of rules). It's funny though that even though the values in the database get blank spaces, those blank spaces are not forwarded thru email submitting (even though the email submit rule is after database submitting).

Long story short, I think the form sends different values to database (eg. "FI ") and different values to email receiver ("FI"). This I consider somewhat confusing.
