Is there any way to change the image that appears next to the Insert Item text? I am referring to the image that is a blue square with a little white arrow.

Not that image, but you can disable the widget and use your own button with an image on it somewhere else to insert items.

I am sort of following you. How would I disable the widget?

Then if I wanted to use my own image would I have to do that with code?

Disabling the widget should be possible from the properties dialog. In the Designer, double click on the section and go to Display tab. There should be an option to hide the insertion.

I don't think code is required. Just add a rule that inserts an element.
