    Multiple HREF

Is if possible to have a Infopath xml doc look for a template in two different locations.

The reason, we have consultants that are not connected to our internal network. But we would like them to have some of our forms on their laptops.

So i was wondering if it was possible to have the xml doc look to see of the template exists on the network if it doesn't then it looks for the template on a local folder like c:\forms

    any help would be appreciated

    Hi Dave,
This is the extranet scenario which has been much discussed. You can search for my posts on extranet. The solution is to add code to the internal solution that reopens the "master" solution with the data for the form. Create an msi using regform for the extranet solution. Let me know if you can't find the relevant posts. Cheers!

Do i need to have anything installed to be able to use the regform?

Is there anywhere i can go for some samples of how to do this. This is a little out of my range of understanding at the moment

    Thanks

    Hi Dave,
Yes, you will need to install the SDK. It's the 3rd link in the left hand pane of "Essential Downloads" on our site.

OK Patrick, i've installed the SDK and i have been able to create the .js installer(can't do the MSI because we don't have Visual Studio .NET).

So what i have been trying is this:

I create my form and just save a copy to my C Drive. I also publish a copy to a shared folder on the network where everyone will have access to the form. I then run the regform on the published form and i then send a copy of the published form and the installer to my tester outside the network. He then installed the files. I then tried to open the published form and it would not let me open it saying it was not a fully trusted form.

What is the process to make this work? I feel like I'm close but i'm coming to the end of my rope.

    Thanks for the help

    Hi again,
There's a regform option for making it Fully Trusted. I think it's "/T Yes" or something. There should be the same parallel method for the js script, but I'm not exactly sure. You are using regform, so try specifying "/T Yes" and see if that works.

is the .NET framework needed for all this to work properly?

we don't have that so i'm thinking many of the things i want to do with Infopath aren't achievable.

I used the /T Yes and then sent the installer and the .xsn to my tester to be installed. I then tried to open the .xsn file that was created through regform and it wouldn't let me open it saying it wasn't fully trusted (even though i used the /T Yes switch) I then switched the .bak file back to a .xsn file. This allowed me to open the form fill it out and submit it to my tester. Unfortunately he was not able to then open it because it was looking for the url based form not the urn based form which i cannot open to submit.

    Am i missing something here?

    Hi Dave,
After installing the form, don't use the xsn. Use the form from the Fill Out a Form dialog. Just Start InfoPath and choose the registered form. You may need to remove the form first and rerun the installation script. Anyway, the key is not to click on the xsn that you sent to the tester but to use the one that is cached in InfoPath. Good luck!

Just out of curiosity, where does infopath keep the cached forms? is there a separate infopath cache or does in use the IE cache?

If it is a separate infopath cache this will save me some head aches as my reps could just open the path once while connected to the network it would then cache on their laptops and they could access it when we sent them infomation. If it is cached in the IE cache, it is automatically wiped every morning from all rep laptops.

InfoPath Forms are not cached in regualr IE cache, they are cached at "C:\Documents and Settings\...\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\InfoPath\FormCache1\..."
