InfoPath 2007 - Repeating Table inside Repeating Table Problem

    Hi,

I am a newbie to this forum and hoping that someone can help me with my problem!

I am creating a browser enabled form (InfoPath 2007) and on this form I have two repeating tables - in one users select Retailers and in another they enter Products

In the first view of the form, users will select a number of retailers and enter a number of products. In another view I want to show all products beside each Retailer where a user can enter the quantity of each product for that retailer. It is this second view that I am having the problem binding the product information to the individual retailers

    Retailer 1:   Customer Name - Customer Ref - Product 1 - Qty
                                                                       - Product 2 - Qty
    Retailer 2:   Customer Name - Customer Ref - Product 1 - Qty
                                                                       - Product 2 - Qty
    .....

I have a repeating table bound to the Retailer Information and inside this I have repeating table bound to the Product Information. At the moment my Datasource looks like this

    • Main
      • Retailer_Info (repeating group)
        • Customer Name
        • Customer Ref
        • etc.....
      • Product_Info (repeating group)
        • Product Name
        • Product Number
        • Quantity
        • etc....

My problem is that the Product Info table only shows for either the first or last node of the Retailer repeating table. So for example if the user selects 6 retailers and enters 5 products my table wil show all 6 retailers but only the products for the first or last retailer. It will show no products for the other retailers

Im sure Im just missing something in the layout of my datasource but I have tried to move around the repeating groups and fields but with no luck. Any help is much appreciated.

    Must be a non-coding solution!

    Cheers,

    Ciara

It sounds like retailers and products are related, correct? Wouldn't you want to nest your Product info repeating group inside your Retailer info group, more like:

    • Main
      • Retailer_Info (repeating group)
          • Customer Name
          • Customer Ref
          • etc.....
          • Product_Info (repeating group)
            • Product Name
            • Product Number
            • Quantity
            • etc....

     Hi Hilary,

Thanks for your reply.I think I made a mistake in my orginal post as I was trying so mnay different options. But neither of these datasource layouts will work for what I want

When my datasource looks like this (Product not nested in Retailer) I get the Product information appearing for all Retailers but it is not bound per retailer ie if I enter a quantity for one retailer it populates that quantity for all retailers which is not what I want

    • Main
      • Retailer_Info (repeating group)
          • Customer Name
          • Customer Ref
          • etc.....
      • Product_Info (repeating group)
          • Product Name
          • Product Number
          • Quantity
          • etc....

When my datasource looks like this (Product nested in Retailer) I get the result that I explain in my first post. The product information appears for one retailer only (either the first or last retailer) and none of the others.

    • Main
      • Retailer_Info (repeating group)
          • Customer Name
          • Customer Ref
          • etc.....
          • Product_Info (repeating group)
            • Product Name
            • Product Number
            • Quantity
            • etc....

Is there a way I can relate the Product repeating table to all retailers and not just the first?

     Thanks for your help.

     Cheers,

    Ciara

I think I still need help understanding. You have products and you have retailers. What is the relationship between them supposed to be? Any retailer might carry any product?

And any product could be carried by multiple retailers?

Re: InfoPath 2007 - Repeating Table inside Repeating Table Problem

So I have a list of products that the sales team want to sell under a certain deal/promotion. This promotion is only available to a certain selected number of retailers. The sales team then need to know how much of each product that retailer has sold. They will get this information on a per retailer basis. So I was hoping to have all the retailers listed with the product set beside each retailer. The user would only need to fill out the quantity of a product that a certain retailer has sold.

    Retailer 1: Product 1 + Qty
                    Product 2 + Qty
    Retailer 2: Product 1 + Qty
                    Product 2 + Qty

I hope I have expained this ok!

Re: InfoPath 2007 - Repeating Table inside Repeating Table Problem

That's why I think that the product group needs to go inside the Retailer group. The data that provides the LIST of products probably comes from someplace else, and the product field itself is probably a drop down (we don't want anyone typing that in, they would be sure to all type it differently!). If the list of products is also in the same form, you'd have that at the same level as Retailer, with another repeating group (ProductsSold) inside retailer... does that make sense?

I'm attaching a simple sample to show what I mean. Right click the link to save it locally, then right click and select Design to open. Preview it, and maybe it will explain better what I'm trying to say...

    Hi Hilary,

Thanks a mil! thats exactly what I needed :) I didnt even think to have a dropdown, I was too focused on having all the products listed in a table.

You have saved me loads of time, I really appreciate it!

    Thanks,

Re: InfoPath 2007 - Repeating Table inside Repeating Table Problem

    Hi,

Although I was delighted with the solution......the users arent too happy about having to add all the products each time they want to add products sold for a retailer. Is there any way that I can display the products repeating table without getting the users to add the products each time from the drop down?

The list of products is selected in the first step of the form (using SQL web service) so the rows of the table are already selected and defined in the Products repeating table by the time the users get to this "Enter Feedback" view.

Any more help would be much appreciated :)

    Cheers,

    Ciara

Re: InfoPath 2007 - Repeating Table inside Repeating Table Problem

     Hello Hilary,

I am using exactly the same structure for my project. I can submit data into tables correctly, but when I retrieve, make some changes on existing rows and add a new row in the repeating table and resubmit, one of the existing rows will be re-inserted again, instead of new row.

Sounds like you cannot make changes and add new row at the same time, is that right?

Hope I can get your insights on that soon.
