    Infopath and Multiple Sharepoint lists

     Hi guys,

I have a problem that I need some help with.  Here is my scenario:

We are tracking people that our employees talk with every month (only one entry per month)

List A - this is a list of names of people, sometimes new ones will be added, sometimes ones will be deleted.

List B - this is a list of the actual contacts: Name of person (from List A), month, checkbox if they were talked with, notes

So, I'm trying to make a form where at the top of the page, you load the month, then it pulls up all of the people in List A but also columns for the information in List B.  When you submit the form after filling it out, it creates entries in List B for the data you entered.

My first instinct was to build data connections to both lists, have a repeating table on List A, then have the data fields from List B and submit them all.  I've obviously run into problems.  I think we could easily do this project by, every month creating the items in List B from the data in List A, but that's creating unnecessary work.

Is this something that's possible in Infopath / Sharepoint?  I'm a programmer, but haven't coded much for Infopath and/or Sharepoint, but I'm open to learning.

Thanks for any help at all,

    -Casey

    Hi Casey,

Yes, typically the scenario where you are writing to a SharePoint list from InfoPath requires code.  Submitting to an InfoPath document library doesn't require code but writing to a SharePoint list as in your scenario does require code.

We have a tool called "qRules" which has a number of commands designed to make reading and writing to your SharePoint lists easier.  qRules is code but you don't actually need to understand the code to use it - you call the code via a rule in InfoPath which actually makes it easier to use than code.

You might want to check it out (we have a free trial version) and see if it will help, the Submit to SharePoint commands are the most popular of the qRules commands.

    Hope that helps

Ted, thanks for the info.  Since I'm not really authorized to buy new software, I think that I've gotten something to work now using code.  I'm still new to it, but learning it as quickly as I can.

    Thanks!

I know this is an old post, but I would be interested in how you accomplished this as well.
