    Data Source Sample Value

    Hi - It's me again!!!

I now have my wonderful Budget Form working with Infopath, DBXL, SQL and Sharepoint.

I created all of my queries for my form using Qdabra Query Builder and specified the Sample Values for my Data Connections as per usual...

Now I want to create a similar form that uses virtually the same queries - except they are pointed to a different, duplicate DB.

I saved my original form to the new form name and changed it up as necessary, and I thought I could just go in and change the DB alias in my data connection sample values to start the process of getting this thing hooked up.

Unfortunately, none of the sample values show anymore in the data connection views and I didn't know enough when I did the first form (also in a big hurry) to save them otherwise.

Is there some place they are actually stored that I could get to them, or do I have to recreate all of them?

    Hi Donna,

If you go to Tools->Data Connections and click Modify on the data connection that has the strings you want to reuse, you should be able to next through the dialog. When you get to the one that specifies the sample values, just double click the row and you should be able to copy it out.

In the future, you can save the QueryBuilder XML to your local drive for reference.

Let us know if you can't find the value in the data connection dialog wizard.

Well - that is what I mean.  The values are not displayed when I do that...  I know they are somewhere because they are all working in the active form, but I just cannot see them???

Just another one of those weird things that keep happening to me :)

And yes,  knowing what I know now - I am developing a procedure for storing this information for each form in the future...

    Re: Data Source Sample Value

In my experience, InfoPath doesn’t retain these sample values and they have to be entered all over again.  It would be actually be nice if it retained these values as it’s a pain to keep re-entering them when a data connection needs to be updated.

If this other database is identical to the original one, there’s no need to run the sample queries again. Leave the data connections untouched and just use different queries in the rules.

Oh that is too bad...  Are you sure they don't exist in the DBXL interface somewhere???

I have to query a different, but identical database - so if they were there - I could just change the DB name in the sample value...

    No rest for the weary!!!

    Hello Donna,

Your sample queries aren't stored in DBXL anywhere.

As Ernesto's post said, even if you want to query a different database, there is no need to rerun the sample queries if the schema is exactly the same.  What matters is the database name you use in the actual queries, which I believe you can suss out from the various rules in your form.  Is that correct?

Well that would be correct, except the original queries no longer show in the Data Connections in Infopath...

    BAH Humbug...

On another note...  I need to set up a query to a totally different form where I need to pass two conditions to the query:

Last 4 Digits of the SSN and Employee Last Name

Both of these fields have to match a single record in the DB before additional fields can populate.

If I wasn't in such a tremendous hurry, I would research this myself...  How do you set the queryxml parameter for this?

    Re: Data Source Sample Value

    Hi Donna,

If your queryml looked like this:

    concat("<query database='#SampleDB#' table='Projects'><filter><eq><column name='Projects'/><value>", field1, "</value></eq></filter></query>")

With two conditions it will look like this:

    concat("<query database='#SampleDB#' table='Projects'><filter><and><eq><column name='Projects'/><value>", field1, "</value></eq><eq><column name='Client'/><value>", field2, "</value></eq></and></filter></query>")

    (changes in bold)

You can use QueryBuilder to help you in creating these. Good luck!
