Hi Everyone,

I am new to this forum and to Infopath. I need clarification on how to install a infopath .xsn file on Shared folder. Should i install infopath on that machine which holds the template form .xsn.

The clients will access the shared folder to open the template form. Should they register the form on their local system using the UNC path for the shared folder. I am very stuck in this. Please comment.

Hi Jamu,

If you register the form locally, then auto-update feature won't work and there are some security concerns: you are either full trust or restricted, both of which have drawbacks.

My recommendation would be to publish to a website using Domain Trust and have people open the form by navigating to the web site. Good luck.

Thanks for your comments Patrick. I will talk to my senior about this. Is web publishing same as shardfolder publishing? Can you specify any URL on web publishing?

It's a bit different from Shared Folder. Do you have a SharePoint site?

Hi Patrick, My senior is not in favour of having web published, as some of our clients don't have servers. I still think Shared folder might be best. But i want know in detail how to do it. I tried installing on a shared folder using the .net Installer msi. When i choose the folder on network (shared folder) as the path to install, it endedup saying "this location is not local and the URL selected is not supported". Explain how i can get around this problem.
