This might be a stupid question for you gurus

Hi everyone, I am VERY NEW to InfoPath and sharepoint, and I am not technical (cannot write backend codes)

I created an Access database and saved it in the network drive.  I then created an InfoPath form and uploaded as a template

in SharePoint Document Library, set permissions for each user.  I was able to open it and submit records.

There are 3 site owners in SharePoint and when other site owner opened it, they got either of the following errors:

    1. "InfoPath has encountered an error, the operation failed"

    2. "InfoPath cannot create a blank form"

Any idea why that is?  Please shed some light, I truely appreciate your input.

Hi -- when you say "uploaded as a template" do you mean that you published the form to a form library? Or that you just uploaded the template like a regular document? You will want to publish the template so that others can open it. Here's some more info on publishing.... and there are no stupid questions (if there were, I'd get some kind of award for all mine...)

Thanks Hilary.  Yes, I meant "Publish".

I am not sure if it's a cache problem, or a security problem.  But after I published the form, other pepople will have a problem opening it on their machine,

the error msg is "can't create blank form"...??

Sometimes on the error message dialogs, there is a button you can click that will show an area with additional messages. Is that the case here? If so, what other error message info is there?

EDIT: Also, what version of InfoPath -- 2003 or 2007? Everyone using the same version?

there is no further information on the error msg.  We all have InfoPath 2007 and SharePoint 2007 installed.

No "Show Details" button, huh? That's too bad.

You could try creating a very basic form with no data connections and publishing it to a new form library, then see if your test users can open that template -- may help you narrow it down if it is a permissions issue to the database (I'm guessing you based the form on the database).

yes, they can see the page without databae connection.

The form that they can't open has a database in the shared drive and they can open the actual database in the sharedrive.

When you say "see the page" -- are you publishing these as browser forms? Or are they opening with client?

Re: This might be a stupid question for you gurus

We figured out what happened: If the user has my certificate imported in their IE trusted root certificate and trusted publisher,

then they can access and submit the form without any problem; and vice versa.

But it would be dumb having to add my certificate to every machine.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

Why is your form full trust?

Not sure.  I read the forum somewhere that you need to have full trust to enable other people update the database.  Maybe I am wrong?

I'd try setting the trust level back to "automatically determine" and see what happens. I haven't worked with database bound forms much lately, and definitely not with Access bound forms, so I can't give you a definitive answer, but it seems like it would be worth doing a bit of testing with.

I tried automatic; but without clicking "sign the form signiture"; the error msg says "Can't open as a blank form".

So my question is, do you know anything about the signiture being made global so I don't need to install it in every machine?

This link may be some help -- Basically, I think you need to install the certificate on your server -- sorry I can't be more help than that, I've not done much with full trust forms that aren't installable.
