button short cut key and rule

Hi, I have Text boxes and button to provide search functionality. Here what i want 1- As user type in the text box and click enter with keyboard the functionality under button click should run. It means that i want the search function to work as enter in the text box type the string to search and press enter key. How to do this? 2- I read that with enter key it isnt possible so i used another key as button control provides shortcut key e.g i have ALT+i under shortcut key for search button. The problem is that under button control i have rule set which checks if user hasn't entered any text in textboxes then dispaly message that atleast one parameter needs to be entered. Problem is that even if i give text in textboxes and press shortcut key(ALT+i) i keep getting the message to enter text in atleast one field. How to solve this. Help needed. Thanks Imran

Hi, I think you use the best way to do that, for your rules problem, can you tried to set another value anywhere, and check if the problem persist?

I think that your user is on the textbox when they Alt +i, so the field is currently blank for infopath because, you have to click elsewhere to apply your modification.

Hello Potemkine, Thanks for reply.Yes you are right i have to click elsewhere on form to apply modification. This is really strange.Though i have used managed code to run the query to search results from webservice as button is clicked(so results show up) but the rule continues to apply and show the message to enter at least on value to text boxes. There isn't any solution to get rid of this problem? Thanks

Hi imransulehri, I suggest you to remove your rule and use codes to show your message.

Hello i have weird problem and i dont know why its not working. As i mentioned earlier that rule pops up with short cut(when first time there was value entered in text box, then cleared, and then entered once more). This behaviour is samely repeated as i try the code. It doesnt appear if i click button but as i use short cut key this beahviour appears. It seems the infopath didn't refresh controls any idea how to make this work? imran

Re: button short cut key and rule

While googling here i found this statement Hello, We don’t have option to run the code or rule tab is in same text box. If we move from the text box only we can execute the code or rule will applicable. If we add OnBeforeChange event also fires whenever user move the tab from textbox. on this url http://www.officekb.com/Uwe/Forum.aspx/infopath/13357/InfoPath-2007-using-Enter-key-in-forms If this means that the problem i am facing is infopath problem and can't be solverd? imran
