    Hi Thierry,
Have you tried using an expression box next to the other parts of your header?

    Hi Patrick,

Thanks for your answer but I don't understand what you mean by expression box?

When you go on View > Header and Footer after you click on header a windows appear you have :

Print form with this header : a text zone and you have insert Autotext but in this menu you don't have an item for select a field of the form?

    Thanks!

Re: Put value of the form in the header

    Hi Thierry,
I dont think that we can have form fields value in the "Print view header"/"Print view footer". I have gone through Infopath sdk and googled but din't find any info regarding this.

    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HA011227811033.aspx
Above link has some info about it, but doesnot specify about using form values in the header/footer.

    Thanks

Re: Put value of the form in the header

I have noticed that the header information is stored within the manifest file
    <printSettings header="...">

Would it be possible somehow to hack this file and specify particular fields to refer too in the header (i.e. header = field1).

    Any ideas?

I really do not like the idea of creating a wordML file. Any other alternatives would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Put value of the form in the header

Hi Hollis and welcome to our forum!

I doubt the manifest could help here because. My guess is that InfoPath does not parse references to the form's fields (xpath lookups on the DOM) when it parses the printSettings element.

We tried to add field values to footers and headers over a year ago for one of our customers. It was impossible. We checked with the InfoPath team at Microsoft at that time and they said it could not be done without going the route of a Word Print XSL. Word Print XSL is hard too for various reasons (XSL mapping to Word). I don't remember if we ever got that working. Greg would know.

Anyway, this was major feedback we took to Microsoft for next version. I am still hopeful that it will appear. :)

Unfortunately, you cannot hack the manifest to add a field to the header/footer. This just doesn't work. And headers/footers don't currently work in WordPrint. Sorry.

Re: Put value of the form in the header

    Thanks for your reply guys!

Is there any indication when the new version of InfoPath will be released? Is there a site with a discussion of the new features for the next version?

    Cheers

Check out this post for a workaround (I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for, but maybe)

    quote:
Well, it's not EXACTLY a "header", but it looks and performs almost exactly the same. If you just make the top margin of the view you're working in less than default, you can put whatever you want (dynamic/static) at the top of each page (right beneath a page break) and it will look like a header. Or, if you want a page with no header, just put whitespace.

I'm glad you think my JScript workaround is useful! However, I hope it becomes obsolete with MS's decision to add better print support. ( *sheesh* )
