    Show Data in alphabetical order

    Hi Everyone,

I have a simple web service that looks up a table with a single column on a SQL Database, and puts the data into a drop down list box in my browser enabled form.

The data is basically a bunch of names in random order, and I want to display them in alphabetical order in the drop down list box.

Can someone help me do this please?

    Thanks in advance.

Modify the data connection query string to return a sorted list. I mean Modify the data connection..Open Data Connection
go to the data connection wizard where your table is selected and the field are displayed with checks.Look on the lower right and use the edit SQL..button.
Add an "Order By Name" or whatever the field name is and that will alphabetize a-z....

     Hey thanks,

I can't find the modify SQL button that you mention.

I go to tools/Data Connections, I modify my data connections, choose my web service, click next twice but I see no Edit SQL button.

    Am I missing something?

I think the initial response was for a SQL query. Since you are querying a web service, you'll need to modify your web service to return items in the order you want. Can you add an "Order By" clause to the SQL in your web service?

     Hi Hilary,

If this is my Web Service Code, how do I do the "Ordered By" Command?

This looks like a UDC file? Who wrote the code for the actual web service: http://######/AbilityClientList/service1.asmx, and it looks like the GetClients method?

Basically, InfoPath doesn't offer a way to sort a data source. qRules does, tho.... as well as a lot of other things that IP doesn't natively support.
