    Problems with emails and workflows

I have an infopath form and sharepoint workflow that don't seem to be working well together.  My workflow is set to send two separate emails based on field values in my infopath form.  The first workflow condition is to check for a negative and send to the manager, the second workflow condition is to check for a positive and skip the manager and go directly to the department  head.  Sharepoint designer shows no conflicts, but the manager still gets the email when they shouldn't  I would be happy to share more about the infopath fields and workflows as needed.

Is it possible the values you are checking are of the wrong type, eg "False" vs "false" or "false" vs "0"

you could set it up to send you a mail with the value of the bool you are checking to see what its set to.

what I have is a drop down box with values in the form which are property promoted to sharepoint, in the workflow I have if then statements to check against a value in that field using if field equals/not equals send email 1 or send email 2.

    just to clarify the problem

so lets say your drop down box says "bob" and "rob"

your workflow looks at the variable set, and says 'if value_x equals "bob" then' and then it sends and email A
    also it has
'if value_x NOT equals "bob" then' and then it sends and email B

and what you are finding is that regardless of what the value is set to, it always sends email A ?

If this is not right can you please clarify, can you please show us your workflow? I will post how I imagine it should work,

(also, get it to email you what the value is being set to, this will help figure out why its not working)

ps. are you using " if appropriate?

    .

Re: Problems with emails and workflows

that's the nuts and bolts of it, mine is a little more complicated than that unfortunately. I can't upload the picture but the workflow states:

if requested for is not empty and rvp approval is empty and req region not equals HQ-IT email to rvp email

else if requested for is not empty and rvp approval equals n/a and req region equals HQ-IT email to IT email.

I wonder if maybe the quotation marks are my problem.  I'll check that out and report back.

ok, so I added the double quotes to my workflow and now the email won't fire at all.

have you checked to see what its sending? obviously its going to be case sensitive. I reckon it should look something like this . note, clicking the ... button brings up a text feild, if you enter it in there without speech marks, it puts it into the workflow with them which is what you want to do.

but yeah do something like this:

and I bet you will find the problem

Re: Problems with emails and workflows

edit: sorry please ignore my original comment.

     This looks fine to me.

perhaps add another email onto both those parts to email you with a little debug (different for each part)

is it possible there is an email going to the manager accidentally in the RVP Email address or in another step (ie IT director approval step)
