Can't Open .xsn File to Design - Can Open to Use

I have been changing approx 30 Property Names in Data Source view corresponding to that many nodes.  The file saves as normal, but on three different occasions, when I close out the file, it will not re-open again to Design.  I can open in normal operating view, but when I try to open in Design, I get the following error message:

InfoPath has encountered an error.  The operation failed.

No other information is provided.  I have alot of history with this file, and have never seen this kind of behavior.

Any idea what is going on?

Also, I would rather not have to re-enter these property names yet again.  Is there a way to get it to open in Design view?  I can use WinZip to get to source files, but not sure what is going on and I don't want to corrupt anything.

    Hi CBrown00,

The data source lives in the XSD file. Typically it will be called myschema.xsd. It is bound to the manifest.xsf and there is a dependency. You can save the files as source files (or expand it using WinZip), fix the XSD data source file and then right click the manifest.xsf and choose Design to see if that fixed the problem.

Best practice would be to save every version so you can go back to old copies. Then, you can compare what's in the zip (manifest.xsf, schema.xsd, etc.) between versions of your form to see what change you made that caused problems. It's often a laborious process to debug this issue with InfoPath form and figure out where it went wrong. The good news is that the InfoPath bug is relatively rare. It happens about 1 in 100 forms.

Alternatively, we could look at the issue for you and give you some feedback on your form. Take a look at Qdabra's InfoPath Form Detailing service. We can do the detailing and fix your problem at the same time.

    Good luck!

    Patrick:

Thanks for the advice and the detailing service.  I will check to see what I can see in the .xsd file.!
