Integration of InfoPath with SQL Server database

My customer wants to submit 80 fields of data from a browser-enabled InfoPath Form to a SQL database. They also want to integrate workflow approval in this form. I'm guessing this will be possible with SharePoint Designer, but I know that the data will have to be submitted to a Form library or list as well; inorder to allow the SharePoint Designer to be created on the Library or list. Please advise me on a better way I can do this.

    Hi Michael,

Since they are using a browser enabled form the only way to get the InfoPath data into SQL is to use a web service.

You could write your own web service or you could look at our product called "DBXL" which is a generic web service that will get the InfoPath data into SQL very quickly and without writing any code.  I am not a developer myself but can use our tool to get InfoPath data into SQL without any issue - inlcuding repeating data from InfoPath (which you can't report on out of SharePoint).

You can find out more about DBXL here: http://www.qdabra.com/en/products/DBXL.aspx  We also offer a free trial version here: http://www.qdabra.com/en/products/download/DBXL.aspx

If you would like a demo of the product I would be happy to set that up, just send me a private message so I can contact you to arrange that.

    Hi Ted,

I came across your reply post on the forum here and I thought I would quickly ask you about DBXL. Just like Michael, I need to develop a solution in InfoPath (InfoPath Form Services 2007 browser based forms) that submits to a SQL server rather than SharePoint Forms Library. I have looked at a few of the tutorials / doco etc on this site but so far it doesnt look all that simple.

In a nutshell, I want to create an application that opens a form in a browser, launched from a MOSS 2007 site, and submits a load of fields to a SQL table. Can you direct me to some clear and concise documentation that describes how to achieve this using DBXL (hopefully using some examples) and describes exactly what the minimum product I require to make this work.

    Thanks in advance

    Chino.
