Is it possible to pass a value from one form to the next without submitting the first form?

There's a text field where I check for a value in the database. If that value doesn't exist, I use a rule to bring up a second form. On the second form I'd like to autopopulate a field with that value that doesn't exist. When the second form gets submitted, the first form is still open and they can then fill out the rest of the fields and submit the form.

In the QDabra samples, I can see for a submit you can provide the field values in a parameter. I'm not sure how to mimic the same thing in a form rule. Is this possible with qRules?

    Hello Gil,

The portion of the tutorial that you read that deals with the Submit data connection has nothing to do with the actual act of passing values from one form to another.  You can actually skip steps 2 and 3 of the Travel Request section and still accomplish the main goal of the tutorial.

What the tutorial actually describes is having a hyperlink in your form with a dynamic URL, that opens up the second form when it is clicked.  Did you try that part of the tutorial?

Yes for the dynamic URL to be constructed, I'm trying to use the "Open a new form to fill out" action. Where it specifies the URL to the template, I don't see an option to insert a field for the action so I was trying something like:

     http://mySharePointsite/forms/template.xsn?CompNo1=../my:CompNo1

The sample uses a hyperlink in the form, which the user can click to open the other form.  As you've discovered by now, rules with "Open a new form to fill out" don't work with dynamic URLs so that will not work.  Is a hyperlink not an acceptable approach?

My client wanted to make it so that when they enter a value in the field, I do a check to verify the number isn't used yet. If it is, I then display some information for that number. If it doesn't, they wanted it to automatically bring up a new form with a field autopopulated for that new number.

It would be clunky to have them click on a hyperlink when it always won't be necessary.

You could use conditional formatting to only display the hyperlink when it's supposed to be clicked.

I confirmed with my client that they're satisfied with this workaround. Thanks for your help.
