    Set value on change

    With qrules in use.

Can I set the value of the "Comment" field when the value of the "Status" is changed before submitting?

I'd like to blank the existing comment when the status changes to get user to enter a new comment.

Yes, just set add an action to Set Value. Select Comment field from the data source and leave the value blank. That should do it. No qRules stuff needed. qRules SetValue is useful for tables where you want to filter the set to work on the row where the edit was taking place or based on some other xpath. If your comment is in a repeating section, this may be useful for you. If it's not in a repeating group, you likely don't need it.

When I setup a rule and action for the status field to set the comment field to blank, it runs when the form loads and blanks the existing comment.  I only want the comment field blanked when the status changes.

Both fields are in a repeating group.

Do you have an open rule on your status field? The rule on your status field to blank the comment will run whenever the status field changes, so something else must be changing your status field. You may want to look at the status field using the logic inspector to see what all may be affecting it -- in the Data Source task pane, right click on the status field and select Logic Inspector.

I deleted all entries and started over; this time it worked.  Not sure what I did wrong the 1st time.  Really liked the logic inspector, could be useful.  Thanks.
