    Uniquie Id

I am creating a transmital form for my company. I am storing the forms on sharepoint library. I am not a programmer. We have programmers but they are busy. Basic functionality i have determined we need in this form is a unique ID for each form that is made when the user goes to fill out the form.

The transmittals will reference, disk images, zip files, and tif files. The unique id will be used to create a directory where these files will be stored. This we can do manually, and later I hope to hand it over to the programmers to figure out how to automate.

My main question is: How can i make the form build a unique id when the form is run?

I have found that i can make a data connection to the ID field in the sharepoint library. Is there a way to add 100 to this and make it a field in the form?

    Hi rilliam,
    Welcome to our Forum!

When you are getting data into the solution you can read the ID from the dataconnection and save it in the field.

One more Idea is to use a GUID.
There is a GUID class in .net to create a Unique ID.
System.Guid.NewGuid() method creates a new GUID for you.
We use this for our form names to be unique.

    Hope this Helps!

    Hey it works! THANKS!

What is the best way to make the form create a folder and copy the file attachments to the folder?

    Hi again Rilliam,
Creating a local folder and saving attachments no doubt requires full trust. Why not just use a database instead? You'd have to write code to programmatically stream your attachments out as files (or maybe there is a way in SP1 to reference them as objects...).
