    Error Trapping

    Hello one and all,

I'm curious to find anyone who has successfully implemented error trapping in IP2007.

The end user I'm working with is asking if we can better handle the "access denied" error.  Essentially, when an IP2007 form (from within a SharePoint doc library) doesn't have permissions for the user trying to open it (from a direct link to the xml in an email), she wants a more graceful error and handling.

Has anyone down here walked that road before?

Access denied page is Sharepoint page and can be customized. The file is present at sharepoint server at below path:

     C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\TEMPLATE\LAYOUTS

NOTE: since it is a shared file it will reflect throught, unless other wise specified.

Thank you for your quick reply Qazi.  I very much appreciate it.

Is there a way, then, to determine the user's rights to the file from within InfoPath?  Thus, if they have read-only access to the file, then I could set a custom submit button visible to false?

That will require a bit of coding.

yeah, that's my thought as well.  just wondering if there is an easier way.

i've decided its not worth it, but here's how i would go about doing it (for the sake of anyone reading up on this at a later date) ....

in IP, have a datafield called "write" and promote it as a column in the doc library.

then, in a sharepoint workflow (create/change events), update that column with the user names of the individuals you want to have write access to it.

back in IP, create a conditional formatting on the button that checks to see if the "write" column contains userName().

    that *should* more-or-less do it.

    thanks again Qazi.

A better approach is to actually check whether the user has permissions on the item rather than adding up a field that mentions which user has what rights on the item and checking against that field.

you can have item level permissions in sharepoint and you can check what sort of permissions does a user have on a particular item
