    Sum totals in footer of repeating table based on values in another field

    This question has probably been asked but I could not find the answer using search.

    For this scenario let's say I have a repeating table that has two columns 'Name' and 'Quantity' the name can be different or the same. In the footer of the table I need to display each of the distinctive names and the sum of those names. I was thinking of doing this by putting a second repeating table in the footer but I am unsure how I would go about adding a new row to the table for each distinctive name. I am not sure if this is even the correct approach. Any help or direction would be appreciated. The format would be something like as follows.

    NameQuantity
    Gerbil3
    Dog2
    Cat7
    Cat3
    Dog4
    Dog2
    Totals
    Gerbil7
    Dog8
    Cat10

    Hi -- is this a browser form or one that will be filled out in InfoPath? Here's a sample that is browser compatible that you can download and try.

    This form is perfect for what I am looking to do. The only twist is my repeating tables are in repeating sections. It works until I add a section, and then it starts to duplicate fields below. So repeating table group1/group2 is in a repeating section called group3/group4. "my:fields/my:plangroup/my:group3/my:group4/my:group1/my:group2:" I think I need another preceeding-sibling rule to hide the row if the row is in the previous table in the previous section. I was hoping maybe you could help. Also this is to be used with Infopath Form Filler 2010. Thank you in advance!! Tyler

    Hi - yes, you'll probably need another preceding-sibling on group4 - my:group4[../../preceding-sibling::my:group4], I think.

    I received a message that it didn't didn't point to the right location.  Would this put all the data in one repeating table while having no duplicates and adding the quantity column or would this continue to have it broken down into sections?

    I was hoping for one repeating table with a summary of all the repeating tables in the repeating sections and having them sum up still as well.  Thanks for the help Hilary!  It is much appreciated.

    Can you attach your form (or a sample with what you are trying to do) under the Options tab? Sorry, it is so much easier for me when I can see the actual form...

    Thanks - that made it easier for me - just needed a second condition:

    my:field1 = ../../preceding-sibling::my:Delivery/my:Plans/my:Plan/my:field1
