GetUserProfileByName parameters tied to InfoPath field

Is there a way to tie the parameters of the GetUserProfileByName web service call to a field value on an InfoPath form.

I have a browser based form that has a contact selector control on it.  What I would like to have happen is to have the person filling out the form select someone from the contact selector.  Once this is done I would like to refresh a data connection using GetUserProfileByName where the value for the parameter is linked to the AccountID field returned by the contact selector.  This way I can retrieve the AD information for the selected user and fill in the information about this person as needed.

Just use a rule to copy the AccountID value to the field in the WS connection and then query it.

Could you please explain this in detail? I have been fighting with this issue all for several weeks and it is now the last issue standing in my way of deploying this new Infopath form. This sounds like exactly what I need but if you could give me some more detail about your rule instructions above I would GREATLY appreciate it!

     Thank you!

Your secondary data connection will have query fields and data fields. Add a rule (on form load, for example) that sets the query field to the userName() function. Then, add another rule action that executes the query. Does that make sense?

Hi Hilary, complete newbie to Infopath do you have a working example I could look at pls. I am working with InfoPath 2003, this sounds like it exactly what I have been trying to do for a few days now in fact thats the total amount of exposure to infopath I have.

Well, any sample I had wouldn't work in your environment, since you wouldn't have access to my SharePoint server. Have you been able to add a data connection to the GetUserProfileByName web service?

Yes I have it working fine with an onload, and get the fields I want for the current logged on user.

I now just need to need to be able to have a user populate a txtbox with another users logon account name click a button and retrieve the requested users details.

    Cheers
