Checkbox does not display correctly in InfoPath-generated email

I have designed a form in InfoPath 2007 that contains several checkboxes.  When the form is submitted, it is set up to email the active view of the form in the email body (so, the form is not sent as an attachment but is displayed within the body of the email that InfoPath generates).

The checkboxes appear/behave normally when the form is filled out via InfoPath or in the browser.  However, when the form is submitted, the email that is generated does not display the checkboxes (regardless of whether they were checked or not).  The checkboxes appear as symbols that look like a hand writing with a pencil (which as it turns out is the question mark (?) character in the WingDings font).  I have tried changing the checkboxes to radio buttons and the same thing happens.  I have created a new blank form and just put one checkbox on it and had it email to me and the same thing happens.  I am using Outlook 2007.  I have never had this problem with previous forms that contained checkboxes before today.

Also, earlier when I was formatting this form I was getting random question marks showing up where there were extra spaces or line breaks.  The question marks would show up in the email that is sent but not as I was designing or previewing the form.  I was able to play around with returns and remove extra spaces in order to remove the question marks.  Seems like the two issues might be related.

Does anyone know how to get the checkboxes to email as checkboxes, instead of as this funny character?

Thanks in advance for the assistance - I'm scratching my head on this one!

    Hi,

I tried to repro this but can't.

Can you attach the simple blank form that you are getting this repro so I can see if it repros for me?

Ted - I have attached the .xsn for a form that is doing this for me.  I literally dragged a checkbox on the page, set up an email connection (which has the active view of the form submit in the email and not as an attachment) and saved it.  You will need to update the email connection so that it emails to you (I didn't want to leave my email address in there in case of someone getting a hold of it and spamming me).  Please let me know if you need anything else.

Thank you for looking in to this for me!

Kristy, Just curious, is this character only appearing when you submit the form to yourself or does this character also appear when submitting the form to another person? - Dipesh

I submitted it to another individual in my organization and it did the same thing.

    Thanks again

    Hi Kristy,

Your test form worked fine for me :-)

What is language set you are using on your client machines?  It is possible I think that it could also be an IE setting of some kind as InfoPath actually renders the form with IE.

In general the emailed views from InfoPath are problematic and you often have to fine tune them to look good.  But since it was working for you correctly once and now it's it I would suspect some setting change on your machine may behind it

    Ted,

Our machines/browsers are set to use English - United States.  To my knowledge, nothing has changed with the languages in use.  I don't know if there are any other settings that might affect how the form is rendered in Outlook/email??  I looked for settings in Outlook and saw that emails are supposed to be formatted as HTML.  I don't believe that is a new setting either.

Any existing form that we had that uses checkboxes/radio buttons still emails correctly.  For whatever reason, it is just this new form.  I would think if there was some setting that changed, the old forms would be experiencing this same issue.

I may have to resort to sending the form as an attachment, instead of in the email body.
