Created in Infopath 2003--Upgrade to Infopath 2007

I have created a form in Infopath 2003 that is linked to a form library in SharePoint 2007 that our internal department uses on a regular basis to request writing projects like procedures, Visios, communications, and other services. I have the submit button to submit to an e-mail box where one of us opens the request and "saves as" to save to the library. Our outside business units still contact us directly via e-mail without the form where we then create our own form off of that e-mail and "save as" to the library.

Based on the information in the form, I have Bamboo charts calculate average times it takes to do items, how many items we get per month and so on. Now that we have our form about where we like it, we would like to expand our reach to the outside departments to start using the form. Acutally everyone would use the same one.

I have a request to upgrade to Infopath 2007 in the next few days. Now using 2007, I want to take the existing form, change it to a web form, and allow that form on submit to write to the library. I have a concern that all the forms that were created in 2003 without a webservice would have some sort of issue. I was wondering the best way to proceed. Should I start brand new and try to copy the existing forms over, or should I update the existing form?

Hi and welcome to the InfoPath Dev forum.

First you need to open your solution in 2007 in design mode and then use the design checker in InfoPath 2007 and change the settings to check for issues with browser forms.  There are some controls that you can't use in the browser and you are going to want to evaluate your form first to see if it's 100% support in the browser or not.  If it's not you will need to see what workarounds there may be for the incompatible controls in the browser.

It should then be easy enough in SharePoint to create a test library with some existing forms and test out the migration plan to browser forms.

    Ted
