Making a copy of a form template

I have a form template that has been published to my SP site and has been in production for a few months now.  Due to complications with upgrading a template that essentially restricts me from upgrading, I have to create a new version of the template with the enhancements, so in the end existing forms in the library use the form template that was published initially and new forms created use the new template.  I don't want to lose the code for the original template just in case I need to "remind myself" how something works with it, and I don't want to start from scratch on the new template.  I've heard that there's issues with just copying a .xsn to a new name, and it gets sticky with the code behind project attached to it.  So, my question is, how do I go about getting an exact copy of the form template, code and all that will be published to the same SP library, and that won't interfere with the existing template?

    Thanks :)
    Karen.

to do so, use save as and then open the new template in design mode and chage its ID.

to change ID go to file -> properties and chagne the ID field

    Hi Karen,

if you would like to publish different versions of the same form in one library I would recommend reading the following link. There will be described how to ensure that an InfoPath form created from an older version of the form template continue to load from the template version which they were created from, while any new form submitted to the library will always use the latest version of the form template.

Here you can find an article which demonstrates this in a "step-for-step" description:

    Hope that helps...

    Regards,

I did the change ID piece, but when I go to edit code on a button or whatever it's still pointing me to the same VS project as the original.  How do I separate the backend code from the original template as well?  I need the whole thing to be on it's own little island, independent from the original.

save a copy of your VS project, and in infopath template go to tools-> form options -> programming and specify the new location of your code
