    Property Promotion Not Working

    Hello,

I've been using Infopath forms for about a year now, but have no formal training.

I recently had my company set up a Sharepoint site for my department. I've set up a Form Library within that site ("Evaluations") and I have published a form template within that library.

After publishing it, I discovered Property Promotion. So I added a field to the Property Promotion area and specified "field 1" with the Column Name as "Employee Name".This is not intended to track the employee submitting the form, but the employee that is being evaluated.

However, when I use the submit button to save the forms to the form library, the "Employee Name" column remains blank.

    Am I missing something?

Hi -- one problem with field names like 'field1' is that it can be hard to make sure you are promoting the correct field. Verify that field1 is the field you are entering the employee name in.

    Thank you for replying.

I double checked the field and it does indeed house the  Employee Name data.

I'm also sure of this because it's concatenated into the file name correctly ("Evaluation - John Smith - 2010-01-20.xml")

Do you have some other fields you could try promoting to see if the issue replicates for those columns?

    Re: Property Promotion Not Working

I just tried 3 more fields (a date, another text field, and a combo box) and experienced the same effects.

Here's some more info that may be relevant:

    • The Form Library has no custom settings aside from the the name and columns (No views, advanced settings, etc.)
    • The form is using domain level security
    • The form was published via the "Network Location" feature. I could not use the "Publish to Sharepoint". Online articles I have read attribute this to the fact that it's not the main domain (it's under a /sites/ subdirectory)
    • The submit button uses the standard "To a document library on a SharePoint site" function

    Thanks again for your help!

So you publish to a network location .... but to the SharePoint Library? Do you mind attaching the template so that someone can try with another SharePoint site to see if properties promote correctly? There is a field under the Options tab for attaching a file....

Due to the proprietary information on the form, I had to remove the text surrounding the fields. I left the relevant ones, though (Employee Name, Version).

Also, to avoid unintentional editing of another person's responses, you have to click the check box above the column to enable the editing/submit for that person. In the full version, it uploads the form to the library and e-mails the next person in line within the same string of rules.

    Hopefully this will suffice.

    I really appreciate the assistance!

I tried setting up a different library and republishing the form template and a couple test forms, but I achieved the same effect. I'm assuming that this is not caused by a setting in the form library now...

Are there general site settings that would cause this error?

     Found a work around!

Since I was already incorporating the name into the file name as it was being uploaded, I used a calculated text column to extract the name of the employee.

The file name was set up to be "Evaluation - John Smith - 02", so I used the following formula to capture the text within the two " - " areas.

     =LEFT((MID(Title,FIND(" - ",Title,1)+3,LEN(Title))),SEARCH(" - ",(MID(Title,FIND(" - ",Title,1)+3,LEN(Title))))-1)

This is probably the most convoluted solution possible, but I think it will do the trick!

Did you attach your file to your post above? I don't see a link to a file. I'm glad you found a work around, but you may want to experiment with another form / library and find out what is going wrong with promoted properties in your environment....
