How to return secondary data when using query or pull-down lists

I'm new to Infopath but I believe I have a common project that I just can't figure out.  I can't get the a secondary table's retrieve data to populate in a repeating table column next to the primary table data.

    EMPL table
      empl_id int (PK)
      first_name nvarchar(20)

    DED(uctions) table
      ded_cd int (PK)
      ded_desc nvarchar(30)

    EMPL_DED
      empl_id int
      ded_cd int
    CONSTRAINT MPK (empl_id, ded_cd)

     Infopath Form:
      Query 'section' [empl_id]

      Data 'repeating section' [empl_id],[first_name]
              'repeating table' [ded_cd],[ded_desc]

Before I make this post any longer - can anyone direct me to an existing post about this or should I continue my question with my data sources outlined?

    Hi:

So, are you getting data back from your child table? Is the repeating table inside the repeating section that is bound to the EMPL group?

Yes, and Yes.  When I structure the form correctly, I can get the repeating table to show each of the deduction codes the employee has a record for.  However, when I attempt to join the deduction description, it acts like there is no join.

I'm sorry to be slow -- can you tell me what you mean by 'attempt to join the deduction description'? Are you talking about adding it to the repeating table that shows the deduction codes? Or are you talking about your data source?
