File Attachment control in "view-only" mode...

    Hello,

I know that (unfortunately) an attachment control in browser based forms cannot be conditionally formatted. Actually I have the requirement to disable the attachment from being removed/changed but able to be just viewed?
Does anyone know a trick or a workaround to set an attachment control in "view-only" mode. I know that I can switch the whole view (including the attachment control) in "read-only" mode but then I can´t even open the attachment --- so that is not a reasonable way.

Thank you very much for any tips...

    Regards,

    Karsten

    hi,

try dropping the file attachment control inside a section, and write conditional formatting on that section.

You can only hide a section, though - no read-only formatting.

    hi,

sorry for the short and unclear reply earlier,

i had faced same problem few months back, what i did was

i had the same attachment control both inside two section

in one section i went to properties of the attachment control i unchecked the checkbox (Allow the user to browse, delete and replace files.

i used to show the control based on if the file needs to be only viewed or edited.

NOTE: i used only one attachment control and two sections.

    Hi Karsten,

Another idea: use Qdabra's qRules 1.8 (free) to save the image to SharePoint and convert to a link. Switch your view to show a linked image instead of an attachment. Then you can control various things and your form size is smaller too.

    Hi Qazi,

thank you very much for the tip regarding the use of two section controls. I´ve tried this --- and it works perfectly.

Re: File Attachment control in "view-only" mode...

    Hi,

I tried your solution but under Forms Services (web interface) and I failed to implement it with success:

If I drag-drop the single file-control into another section, it comes with its previous section so that I have two nested sections...

Could you explain me a little bit more how do you duplicate the file-upload control among two sections. Did you test under forms services or just under infopath client ?

Please note that I tried with extensibles sections, not simple sections....

Thanks in advance for your great help,

    Best Regards !

     hi jca38,

sorry for late reply, i have been busy.

The above trick works in both client as well as browser forms, but this trick will not work with repeating controls directly, what you can do is

create two sections and use the same repeating control  having the  file control in it.

and put the rule on the main section for hiding and showing,

Note: you need to use two sections, one repeating section with file control as one of its fields

    Hi,

I have tried using the option suggested by you but when copying the file attachment twice in the same form it gives duplication of control error. How to avoid this error??

    Thanks,

It isn't an error - just an informational message. InfoPath just wants you to know you have the same control on the form more than once.
