    Contact Selector (UserProfileService)

Greetings, I have a form that utilises the MOSS user profile service. However, the contact selector will only populate with SP profile fields from myself.

Example, I open a form. Select another user and there details should be populated, but it only does mine. This would be great if all users were to fill out the forms themselves, however. Manages like to fill out on behalf of the user!

Ive surfed and read through lots of articles, but none seem to suggest a solution to this?

Is userprofile service only capable of displaying the current users details?

hope someone can help or point me in the right direction!

Bricey, I can walk you through this.  You may get all you need just by reading my blog post here:

InfoPath - Get user information without writing code (extended)

That's how you get user profile info of people other than the logged-in user.  I assume that since you're referring to the UPS in relation to your Contact Selector field that you must be trying to autopopulate it with some user info.  You shouldn't need to do that with the Contact Selector - just let people pick names, and it works.  My first line of questioning would center on this topic if my blog doesn't do the trick.

Thanks warrtalon, Sounds like im getting mixed up, I currently use the contact selector and was stupidly trying to populate fields with UPS against the AccountID. I have used the extended version but I really need to show custom fields that have been created within MOSS.

Ill take a closer look at the extended but Im sure I ran into issues trying to list all users in MOSS, dare I ask the question, but im right in thinking that the contact selector is only able to display, displayname, account id and account type?

Yes, those are its 3 nodes and is all it can do.  You do not populate it with the UPS info when names are chosen or inserted.  However, I do regularly auto-populate those 3 fields with UPS data sometimes so that people don't even have to select a name by doing this:

DisplayName = UPS PreferredName of either the logged-in user, logged-in user's manager, or some other user's info whose username I have (must have their username)

AccountId = AccountName attribute or userName() concatenated with "domain\"

    AccountType = User (plaintext)

I think I have it now, using both contactor selector and utilising the extended link above. Ill post my findings once I understand how it works! But so far so good....

Good, so my article was helpful?  I thought it might be in this case.  Just let us know how you put it all together when done...

    Hi!

The above blog was really usefull but I still have one question. We are going to create custom fields in the SSP, eg 'Team', that is not being filled by the Active Directory. Is it still possible to automatically fill those fields in InfoPath?

    Thanks in advance!

Jasper, yes you can. We have quite a few fields that dont exist in AD. You just need to know the property name from within SPP (user profiles and properties).

warrtalon - Ill will get round to doing a proper post when I find the time, sooner rather than later. I know this will be of use to a number of other people!

Do I have to go to:

     Clayton's SharePoint Madness

     ?

It is good to hear that it is possible.

     :)
