Repeating Table with document attachment - need to make documents read only

    Hi all,

I have an infopath 2007 form with a repeating table where the last column is an attachment column.  After the form gets all it's approvals I need to hide/delete/or make the documents not be able to be opened from the form.  So here are my thoughts - please let me know if you can help me pick the right way...

Have set a checkbox on the form for the facilitator to check once the form approvers have all signed off

1 - Tried to set a rule to make the repeating table read only but the documents can still be opened

2 - Tried to set a rule on the attachment property that will delete the file but keep getting validation errors

3 - Tried to set a rule to replace the file with another file (a gif that is labeled "Document On File" but couldn't get it to replace

4 - repeating table is in section, and have set the section properties to be read only on checkmark - document can still be opened

Please let me know if you have any ideas that could help.  Thanks,

What is the validation error you're getting when you try to use a rule to delete the file?

Your best bet is probably to use Conditional Formatting to hide or disable the file attachment when the checkbox is checked.  Have you tried that?

either you use conditional formatting or you can simply create another view in which you dont show the attachment field.

another view is certainly an option - i will start looking at that

the validation error is just a red dotted box around the attachment location saying that it only supports 64bit binary files

you can't do conditional formatting on an attachment field

you dont have conditional formatting on attachment field, but u can put the attachment field inside a section and then have conditional formatting directly on the section

If you have the fields set to "Cannot be blank" then they will obviously cause a validation error if you make them blank.  Do you have that option checked?

I have no trouble adding conditional formatting to a file attachment control (see screenshot).  Maybe that's a difference between InfoPath 2003 and 2007.  Are you using InfoPath 2003?

    Hi Jimmy,

Conditional formatting for Attachment field is available in non browser enabled forms(InfoPath  2007). It is not avaiable for browser enabled forms (InfoPath 2007)

    Thanks Qazi -

the views option worked just great.  I set the trigger field in the original form and added the view I needed, then set the open form rule to only show the read only view when the trigger was checked.

Sometimes we get so close to a project we can't remember all the options :-)

Jimmy - I am using infopath 2007 and Qazi is correct - this is a browser enabled form,
