I am new to infopath so I hope I get this right.
We have facility maintenance software that is built on access 2003. This software has many tables and many relationships as you would think it would have. One of the static forms we use is a maintenance request form. I was thinking that I could build an InfoPath form to connect to the DB-pick the Work Order table-Pick only 8 of the fields so that when a user opened the form, they could fill out the form and submit it directly to the db.
Connecting to the DB-getting the table and fields was easy enough but when I hit submit, I get an error that says the WOID needs a value. The WOID is the primary key that is set to auto number.
So I setup a mock DB-gave it the same 8 fields with the same names and attributes. I then designed a blank Infopath form based on the mock DB as I did with the real one and when i hit Submit it worked just fine. Inserted the data and the WOID did go to the next number.
So-being new to InfoPath I can only believe that the mocked one worked because there are no related tables.
With all that said-
If a table is related (in this case the WO table is related to about 20 different tables) in access, what does one have to do when building the InfoPath form so that one can submit to the DB. Again I am only trying to use 8 fields from a table that has many and only trying to submit to one table that is related to many.
Any help is much appreciated and I know it is very difficult to trouble shoot something of this type without having access to the software i am using for the facility maintenance. Hopefully i gave enough background info to point, nudge me in the right direction or at least help me understand how InfoPath deals with submitting data to a table that has many relationships.
