Textbox required to be filled in when choosen from dropdownfield

I am new to Infopath 2007 and created a form that is submitted to SharePoint 2007. I've created a dropdownfield entering entries manually. The Dropdownfield cannot be blank. One of the options to choose is "Other". When the user clicks on "Other" a textfield is displayed where the user can fill in another option (using conditional formatting - mark "hide control").  I would like users to be required to fill in the "Other" textbox if they choose "Other". What is the best way of doing this?

I've tried to set the properties of the textfield to cannot be blank but this requires the field to be filled in no matter what option is choosen in the dropdownfield.

Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

    Hi Ilona

I would suggest, that you added a data validation on the textbox.

    • Right-click the textbox
    • Select Data Validation
    • Click Add to add a new validation
    • Specify a condition where the field containing the value from the dropdown is equal to "Other" and the field containing the value of the textbox is blank.
    • Define an errormessage in the ScreenTip-box that says something like "Please specify Other".

Hope this solves your problem :-)
