Update previously entered data when the Form is not saved

I have created a number of non-Browser-enabled forms that are hosted in a SharePoint document library.  When the user clicks on the form, it opens in the InfoPath 2007 client.  The forms submit to an MSSQL database.  This all works fine.

Now I need to figure out how the users can modify/update their work at a later date.  It seems like InfoPath's way to do this is to save XML files locally that the user can then open up again in the InfoPath client.  My boss is concerned that this is too complicated for our users.  She wants to find a way where we can click on a button and bring up the a re-creation of the form.  My thinking was to have SSRS reports hosted in SharePoint and each record has an Edit link.  To do this, I would have to programatically retrieve the data and set each node in the XDoc, correct?  I have already found how to pass parameters into InfoPath client as query strings and that seems straight-forward enough.

Is this a good approach, or is there an easier way?

    Hi Notarian,

That's probably the best approach if you already have content in SQL. Too bad you didn't use a Web Service in the beginning. Then it would be easier for you and less costly from a maintenance perspective when the form changes. We provide a Web Service that stores a copy of the XML along with the data in a SQL database. This way, the data roundtrips with 100% fidelity. If you are developing new forms, I recommend looking at our DBXL Web Service product. For your existing forms, it's too difficult to redo them from SQL schema to a true XML schema, so you should to the approach you have thought of. Good luck.
