Question about whether to use one SQL table for all forms

I hope someone can give me some guidance on the problem that I'm having:

I'm working on a project that involves multiple healthcare eligibility forms. There is a main screening form which I've used the main data source for to query/submit the data to a SQL Database. There are 2 groups of forms that the user can choose from once they are done with the screening form (I'll call them group A & B). Right now I have it set up so that each form has its own sql table to submit the data to. Both group A & B have about 5 forms each in their respective group. When the user goes from the screening form to one of the forms in either group A or B it populates that form with the data that is the same for the form (ex: first name, last name, social security #, ect.). I'm having no problems with the screening form having it query/submit the data to the SQL database table. The database populates the data fine in each of of the forms under group A & B. I'm also able to query the data in the forms for group A & B. The only problem that I'm faced with now is the fact that I'm having trouble submitting the data in the forms in group A & B into the SQL data source. I'm thinking this has something to do with the other forms being used as secondary data sources when connected to their respective tables in the database. I was thinking about putting all of the fields for all the forms into one table so that I'm able to submit the data on every form.

    Hi:

When you walk through the data connection wizard for your main data source, at the very last screen you'll see at the bottom information about submitting. If there is a reason InfoPath won't enable submit to your table, there will be a message. Here is another post on this subject that may be helpful to you.

Just so you know, the issue is not going to be due to using other data as secondary data sources -- generally, not being able to submit has to do with a data type in the table you wish to submit to. If the other post doesn't help you, attach a copy of your form and I'll walk through the data connection real quick, see if I can see what's wrong.

Re: Question about whether to use one SQL table for all forms

    Hilary,

On the last page of the Data Connection Wizard, for the Main Connection, it says "Submitting to a database is not supported in browser-enabled templates". I forgot to say that I'm using browser-enabled forms to publish to my SharePoint site. Does that make a difference with the secondary data sources? I'm using the code behind to do the query and submit functions.

     Thanks,
    Greg

You may need to use UDC connections for your secondary data connections, but as far as I understood, you are getting data back from those just fine, only having trouble with your submit? Since you are using code for your submit, instead of built in functionality, it seems most likely that it is a code error preventing your data from submitting....What happens if you run one of the forms that won't submit from the client? In debug?

Re: Question about whether to use one SQL table for all forms

I decided that I'm going to use a web service to submit the data to the SQL database from the secondary data source based on the account number on the form. The row for the data will already be in the database. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated!
