e-mail submit, do i have to use outlook???

I have a very simple InfoPath application.  It's a few forms.  Nothing fancy.

A customer reads the form and then signs it.  Example:

I promise to return the whatchamacallit.
If I do not return it, I promise to pay for it.

             [ customer name           ]             [date]

                        customer ink signature

The submit button uses e-mail and Microsoft Outlook 2007
to mail the signed InfoPath 2007 form to the appropriate person.

PROBLEM:  it is necessary to purchase a license for MS Outlook 2007

for each tablet computer that will host these .xsn
                       templates.

QUESTION:  is it possible to use a FREE smtp client like Outlook Express,
or some other FREE solution that does not require the purchase
                        of MS Outlook 2007?

    Please advise.

    Thank you.

You need Outlook 2003 or 2007 to use the E-mail data connector to submit forms.

You could install Qdabra's DBXL Web Service and set up server-side e-mails on submit. Free trial and Beginner license starts at $395/server. No client licenses required for that and you can have Hotmail or Gmail. For not Outlook clients, you'll definitetely want to send a link to the XML document in DBXL so that they can just open and click to edit.

    Cheers

Re: e-mail submit, do i have to use outlook???

    PROBLEM:

the forms have been all developed with InfoPath 2007.  Our Outlook licenses are for Outlook 2003.

InfoPath 2007 insists on using Outlook 2007 and is ignoring our Outlook 2003.

When      Submit            is clicked,  the message is:

             ________________________________________

               Microsoft Office InfoPath

                InfoPath cannot submit the form.
An error occurred while the form was being submitted.

Details:  To use this feature, Microsoft Office Outlook 2007
must be set as the default e-mail program.

             _________________________________________________________

QUESTIONL:  How do we get InfoPath 2007 to use Outlook  2003?

    Thank you.
