Empty fields when completed form is opened

I am using InfoPath 2007 and have created a form that pre-populates three fields (Title, Function, and Rank) from a SP list based on my Name field.  That is working correctly.

However, when I go into the library and open a completed form, the all four fields are blank.  And, it is only these four fields that are blank. Is there anyway to fix this?

does your functionality require you to populate these fields every time the form is opened or you can just populate them once. I guess the person going into the library either does not have access to the list from which data is picked or his record does not figure up there

The list is not restricted.  I created a simple form using the "Set field value" function with filters to pre-pop.  I have a different filed pulling from a different list and when the form is re-opened the data is still there.

I was not aware that you could have the form have the form filled each time or just once.  If so, how is it done?

Please forgive me if my question/answers seem elementary.  I'm self-taught and learning something new everyday about InfoPath.  Thanks for your help and support.

Can you attach the template so that we can have a look. and modify the template if needed.

I assume you're talking about the client fields like Client Title and Rank.  I see you have set default values so that they equal the value of the list item field relevant to the client name chosen in the pulldown.  This looks proper and should work.  Check this for me...create a new form that has these fields filled out and "save" it.  Then, save that XML file down to your desktop and open it with notepad.  Find the fields for Client Name, Client Title, Client Rank, etc., in the XML and see if they have any data in them.  They should show the data that was in the form when you saved it.

    Two other things I noticed:

    1. Your CRM pulldown is pointing to a node instead of the repeating group.  It should point to the repeating group in the Entries box and then specify the CRM Name for the Value and Display Name.
    2. You shouldn't recalculate your filename each time you save the form.  You should calculate the filename upon initial submit and save that filename to a hidden field.  Then, your submit action should reference this field for initial submit and all subsequent submits without recalculating the title.  I explain this step-by-step in this blog post: InfoPath – Auto-Generating Filenames

I made your sujected changes and the 4 fields are still blank when I re-open the form.  I also opened in Notepad and the data is there.  So, I am at a lost as to why the fields will continue to be blank. I am attached the XML file.

My requested changes would not have been relevant to your issue, but rather were some other things I noticed just from looking at the form.

If the data is in the XML, then it should display in the controls.  I have never encountered such a thing, but at least we knows it's there and can narrow down the troubleshooting.  Unfortunately, I don't know where to go next, but hopefully this info will help someone else on the forum to figure it out.

I think I will start over and re-create the fields and go from there.  I have a co-worker using the same functionality and he does not have this problem.  Thanks for all the help.

    hi Najerido,

I checked the xsn, and there was nothing that i could find wrong, and from the xml file you attached above, the data is there, but it is not displaying.

Currently i dont have a solution for this. I will get back to you when i find a solution for this

Re: Empty fields when completed form is opened

I figured it out this morning.  I had a Value Set on the Client Name field that should not have been there.  I thought I deleted it.  I had to go into the Data Source, select the field (Client Name), select Properties from the drop-down, and remove the Value that was on the field.  That was causing the fields to be blank when I re-opened the form.

    Thanks for all the help.
