Problem with populating forms from SharePoint lists

    Hi,

I have a problem with a complex InfoPath form in out SharePoint portal. It is not a managed code form, but still has a lot of triggers, filters, data connections and etc. The form collects data fom users and saves it into SharePoint lists. At the same time, when the user starts a new form and before he/she changes data in the form textboxes, the form pulls data from the SharePoint lists to populate the initial state of those textboxes. We made it populate textboxes from last saved form so the users could see what information was supplied last time. The problem is in populating these textboxes. It does not fill them according to the triggers, data is pulled from any form that is submitted at different times, not exactly the last one. I’m sure there is nothing wrong with triggers or functions, because this form runs well in test environment. But  in production server it messes up everything. I compared form templates in test server and production server, they are identical. I don’t know what to look at else, so frustrated. I will appreciate any hints, advise or troubleshooting help. Please help!!!

    Thank you,
    Roman

    Hi Roman,

Hmmm. Well, you are no doubt filtering the forms that you are pulling. Must be an issue with the filtering. Rules are hard to debug. You can put alerts in the rules to make sure that actions are completing. I would need to know more about your form to offer more advice. Probably a simple filtering issue. If you are not using a Web Service, you will have to filter client side. I recommend using a Web Service. Our free Web Service trial WSSP provides filtering on the server and is very fast for large ShP lists or form libraries. It also comes with a query tool. See Qdabra.com -> Products for details. We could also debug your rules for you if you want to buy a support incident. Probably too unique an issue for this forum since it relates to the rules, conditions, and filtering that are unique to your form.

Re: Problem with populating forms from SharePoint lists

    Hi Patrick,

Thank you for your advice! Today I figured out the problem. As you said, some filters were appropriately set. I compared to other filters on other controls, they had different expressions. But later, when we published the form, I had the same problem with other controls, which didn't have such problem before. The form is so complex that I'm getting lost there because I don't understand all the expressions there. Maybe you know some internet resources where people share information on how to make filter, write expressions? There are filters with "xDXDocument.get-DOM()" command, which I totally didn't understand. I searched the net, but there is not enough information about it. Please tell me if you know where to learn all these things about expression. Thank you.

    Regards,

    Roman
