Browser based form ... Huge IExplore.exe process.

    Hi,

I have a form which pulls about 3Mb of data from a SQL Server & 2Kb from a SharePoint list.  Running in the InfoPath client, the form runs perfectly well.  In Internet Explorer it generates an iexplore.exe process which consumes 500Mb + of RAM & causes the IE to display script performance errors.  Is this normal? am I trying to do something which isn't doable?

    Regards

    Stu

    Hey Stu,

Why are you pulling 3Mb of data from SQL? Get a Web Service and filter the data server side. Don't pull 3Mb in. It's not a best practice.

Now, if you really need the data, make sure your view isn't trying to show it all - that will create massive performance problems for browser forms. Just hide some of the stuff and that should make your form better.

InfoPath Form Services (browser support) is a 1.0 product. They have improve performance remarkably in the latest Service Pack. You should look for that. If you already have that, look at SharePoint 2010 (in technical preview now) and see if that makes your job simpler.

    Hope this helps a tad,

    Hi Patrick,

Firstly thanks for the reply, I guessed what I was doing wasn't the best idea, I just couldn't figure out another way to do it.  Maybe if I explain what I'm trying to do, it'd help.  the 3Mb of data it's pulling back when the form loads is a load of asset details.  The user will populate an ID field on the form which then fills in Make, Model etc based on the idea (using a rule / filter).  Ideally what I'd like is rather than loading all of this data into the form, I'd prefer the user to enter the ID, hit tab & the form then goes off & does the query against the DB.  Is a web service the best way to achieve this?

    Many thanks

    Stu

    hi Stu,

you can also use code behind to fetch data, fetching data using code behind is the easiest way
