Using a text box to pass a parameter to a data source

    I have a main data source 

    it has fields such as ID, Name, description

    I have a secondary data source to recieve data from sql server - if I run the query it would return over 20K records, so putting the values in a drop down list to select from is not an option.

    So I thought - text box, then add some rules to the text box to set the value of the ID of the data source, send a query then set the values returned into the fields in the main datasource

    However I always get the error the parameter is incorrect They are both the same data type.

    You need a query method to pass a query parameterm which a DB receive DC does not have.  You need a web service to interact with the db.
