    Memberof field issue

    Hi,

I am using QDABRA AD webservice. If I check Memberof field, it shows me user's last joined group name. I would like to know to which groups the user is a member of(a kind of list)

Is this possible to pull from AD?

    Thank you

Hi InfoP, which web method are you using?

    I use getmyinfo.

The AD web service today doesn't provide that ability.

As an alternative, you can try using IsUserMemberOfGroup, which returns true if the user is part of the specified group, and false otherwise.

I think what I am asking exists but I just cannot figure it out.

IsUserMemberOfGroup checks if a user is member of a given Security Group or not. "memberOf" from GetmyInfo shows only the last security group user is joined. What I am looking for is a list of Security Groups, user is a member of. I know that information is somewhere because it is what IsUserMemberOfGroup is using against. Can you please let me know how I may get this list?

    Thank you

IsUserMemberOfGroup checks the membership of the list to see if it contains the user.  It does not actually get a list of groups the user is in.  But we can add this as a feature request for a future version.

This is critical for me, would you recommend another method to achieve this?(maybe another solution or tool)

What is the possibility to have this feature in the next release and what are the estimated timeframes?

    Thank you

Do you need just direct memberships or do you need a recursive check?   User Joe is a member of Group A, Group A is a member of Group B.  Do you require the list to return A and B, or just A?

     Hi Jim,

Recursive check would be a preference. So in your example, the list should return Group A and Group B, indicating that Group B is member of Group A.

If it is not possible, I may find a workaround and create the parent-child relationship staticly and lookup the structure from there but dynamic recursive check would make the life much more easier.

I see from your signature that you are a programmer in QDABRA, will you start implmenting this or what would be the next steps?

    Thank you

New features normally get prioritized based on several factors, development/test resources required, etc.  We are finishing up our v2.4 release at the moment so all new feature requests will be evaluated for v2.5 or later release.

    Hi Jim,

Thank you for the information, I just would like to have a better understanding.

    - How often does QDABRA release new vesions for AD Web service? For example when was v2.3 released?
    - What is the procedure to request a new feature? My request in this thread may be considered as a request for a new feature?
    - If I pay, can QDABRA  implement this requested new feature for me?(or at least add it to v2.4?)

Also I am just curious, what are the new features coming with v2.4?

    Thanks again

    Hi InfoP,

    • We release 2-3 new versions of ADWS per year. New versions of DBXL (which includes ADWS) are released twice a year. Currently, DBXL 2.4 is scheduled for October.
    • Thank you for the feature request. We have added it to our database and will triage it along with the other requests.
    • We are happy to do consulting work for you. Please send e-mail to me separately with requirements and I will work up an estimate for your review.

Lots of new features in the works. Our quarterly newsletter contains some of the new features for DBXL 2.4: http://www.qdabra.com/en/press/Newsletter/QdabraNewsletter200907.htm

For ADWS, we are also adding a number of new methods. We haven't created a list of those features yet, so please email me separately if you would like to know. I would expect the next version of ADWS to be released in September timeframe. That will be called v2.4 of ADWS too (matching DBXL release).

I hope this helps answer your questions.
