I have noticed a few annoying things with infopath.

Say I want to copy a control as all the properties and rules and conditional formatting in it are the same. Although it lets me copy it it loses the properties and rules along the way. What I would like to be able to do is just copy then change one aspect, such as what field it is bound to. or perhaps some conditional formatting.

Is there anyway to do this?

Also is it possible to copy rules from one field to the other? Just it seems to involve a lot of clicks.

I copy controls all the time in order to keep the settings.  What do you mean when you say "it loses properties and rules along the way"?  I even copy controls and change the binding to a new field just to not have to re-do all the settings.  The things that don't carry over are the things that are specific to the field if you change the binding - rules, default values, and data validation.  Conditional Formatting should stick.

You can't copy rules until InfoPath 2010.

One specific example. I have database form (I don't know if that make a difference to the behaviour). If you bind it to a sqlserver bit field it automatically interprets is as boolean as it should. The default values are true/false (pretty logical) and with an additional select option.

Usually I want the display value to be Yes/No rather than true/false and I just want a blank option rather than the select word that appears. If I copy and paste, even before I have changed the binding, if you look at the properties it is back to the default true/false/select options. It seems to happen every time without fail.

Thanks for letting me know not being able to copy rules isn't available, that would definitely be a nice thing to have in the next version.
