Drop Down Lists in Repeating Sections

I have a repeating section and would like you use a drop down list.

The problem is that when you insert another section and make a change to drop down list it changes the previous drop down list as well.

    Any help?

To me, that sounds like the field that the drop down control is bound to is not a field in the repeating group that the repeating section is bound to. Let's say you have a repeating group called 'item' and it has a field called 'color'. If your drop down control is bound to your color field and that field is inside your item section, you'll have an additional new color field every time you insert an item section...

Or do you mean that you want the drop down list to display different items in different instances of the repeating section?

yes I want the drop down list to display different items in different instances of the repeating sections.

in the first section I have a drop down list Status (there are about 6 status' in the drop down), a user can select say Design to go with this first section, when they click insert another section, I want the drop down list to show the same list again but have the user be able to select, say Requirements or User Testing and have have this selection be reflected in the previous drop down or any future repeating sections.

To make it work right now I changed it to a rich text field

What's the data source for the drop downs? Were you just manually entering the values? I'm wondering if you could do this using a secondary data source that has some more information in it and filtering based on the count of the repeating sections. That might get pretty tricky, though, since it sounds like you want different values in the drop down depending on how many repeating sections have been inserted in the form.
