An error occurred accessing a data source.

    Hi,

Due to a problem I had after I installed Active Directory, I had to reinstall MOSS.  Now, in my forms library, I reuploaded the same form (which worked fine previously) and when it opens I get this message:

    Warning

There has been an error while processing the form.
Click Continue to resume filling out the form. You may want to check your form data for errors.
Click Start Over to load a new copy of the form.
An error occurred accessing a data source.

An entry has been added to the Windows event log of the server.
    Log ID:5566

But, when I select 'Continue', everything seems to work fine.  At the same time, I do need to get rid of this error message.  How can I fix this?

It's not fine.  One of your data connections is not working and is not pulling down data.  The form will work normally other than that data connection(s).  Does this form have the UserProfileService added?

What did you mean by "upload"?  You don't upload form templates - you only publish them.  If uploaded, they won't work properly, so I want to make sure that's not what you really meant.

Re: An error occurred accessing a data source.

I am using the UserProfileService, and am also getting this error.  I usually only get the error myself when the form has been open for a while.  On a remote test, I saw a user get the error every time they created a new document.

The UserProfileService is a UCDX connection that retrieves data on Form Open.  (The first time the form opens, I assign a document author.  On subsequent opens, I get the current user's profile, and compare user name against the author to see if I will allow the user to save changes.)

I see posts mentioning load sharing and server farm, but I'm not an admin.  Is there something I can do myself for the InfoPath form to fix this problem?  (e.g., use a different method to obtain user.)  Or is there something I need to ask an Admin to do in Sharepoint Administration so this error doesn't happen?

Thanks for any advice you can give!

    hi barb09,

i dont think u need to use the userprofileservice necessarly, first time the form is created set value of field box (say author) to username(), and later on keep comparing this field with username() ,whenever the form is opened and fire your rules accordingly.

username() is a function available in infopath that gives the username of the current user.

Yeah, if you only need to compare the username, then use the userName() function like Qazi said.  If you need other profile info for the user for certain fields or comparisons, then you still need to use it.

What exactly are you doing with the profile data that comes back from the UserProfileService.  The way the methods work in that web service is they send the current user's name by default.  So, they don't even work without first knowing the username, which you can get without querying the web service or even adding it to your form.

If you do need this service - I use it in all of my forms - then we can troubleshoot the standard 5566 error, so let us know.

Re: An error occurred accessing a data source.

Thanks, both of you!  userName() will be all I need, so I'll remove the Web service connection, and run the comparisons like you said.  Perfect.

(I realized after I posted my earlier message that the error may be occuring because the form is still in our Test environment.  If I ever do need the Web service (which is a nice tool), I should first try it out on our Production servers to see if I still get the error.)

I really like using InfoPath for this large web form I've created for global use -- but I've had to troubleshoot one thing after another.  Quite a learning experience!

I'm receiving the 5566 error for a similar situation.  I have a infopath form that I'm trying to auto populate the user's name on thru active directory web service.  The form works fine in preview mode.  I published the form to Sharepoint and it also works fine there as long as it's being opened in the client application, but when open as a browser enabled form I get the 5566 error.  Anyone else seen this problem?

     Hi Clayton Cobb

I am using the UserProfileService and getting the 5566 error. Can you please troubleshoot this issue with me?

It works in InfoPath (form preview) but not published as a browser form. This is a SharePoint custom list form and I have created the Data Connection library with the .udcx file.

    Please help.
