    Linking Drop Down Manual Lists

Please could anyone help me, new to infopath.

I have created a form and manualy added data to the drop down menu's and would like to link them eg -  when I pick a specific customer name I would like the address and post code of that customer to be picked from the other field drop down menu's. Is there any way of doing this, we do not have a MOSS set up and would like to get this to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

     I am using infoptah 2007.

    Many Thanks.

    JY

Hi JY, You can use the filtering data option in InfoPath. But I am not sure if its going to work for manually entered values. In this case you will probably have to write some code to do it. There is another way you can do it. If you keep all your values in xml files and add them as resources, you will be able to filter the data. This is assuming you have some kinda of link between them of course !! If you could give some more details, I can elaborate on a specific solution. Hope this helps. Cheers---Jag

    Morning Jag

Thanks for the reply, what my end game is to have a list of customers which when you choose one the full address, post code, contact number, email address etc all come in automatically. I have looked around and it looks like it may be easier to have maybe and access db with all the customer details in and reference this in to the forms I am creating. What do you think, if xml is the better way to do this could you point me in the right direction of some sites please.

    Many Thanks

    Hi JY,

You can have your data in an access db and make a data connection to your db. That will work fine.

There are other ways of doing it as well. Here is a link from MS where they do it using webservices for browser enabled forms

    http://blogs.msdn.com/infopath/archive/2006/10/12/cascading-dropdowns-in-browser-forms.aspx

You can also have all your data in xml files and add then to your infopath forms as secondary datasource. That will allow you to filter the data.

So give it a go with which ever option you fancy and let me know.
