InfoPath Dev

Hi,

 I'm curious to know if anyone has done something similar to what I'm trying to accomplish.  I have a need to update a parent SharePoint site list from a child sub-site list.  I don't have access to the server so whatever I do needs to be client side.  Is this possible to accomplish with InfoPath?  The fields from the sub-site list are all included in the parent list.

What do you mean when you say you don't have access to the server?  You can't use SharePoint at all nor the web services it exposes? 

Or do you mean you can't log on to the server directly?  You wouldn't need to do that anyway, but you still will be accessing server resources.

If that's ok, then my idea is this:

- Create form and publish to form library

- Create receive data connection from child list to display data in fields you create in the form

- Create a submit data connection that submits to the parent list using the CAML method and a built-in Lists.asmx web service via this method

Sorry for not being clear.  What I mean is that I cannot create custom webparts via C# code.  I have access to SharePoint Designer and I imagine I can use webservices via JavaScript.  So the answer to your question is yes, I can access server resources. 

 Your advice makes perfect.  I will have to do some research on the submit data connection to the parent list.

You won't need to do research, and you definitely wont need to use JS for web services.  You can use web services out of the box with InfoPath, and this is a web service provided directly by MOSS.  Use the link I gave above - it explains it in perfect detail, so no research should be required.

Very cool.  If InfoPath has this OOB that rocks!  Unfortunately I tried the link you gave me but it didn't work.  Would you mind sending the whole url?

 Is there a way to do this to a custom list without using a repeating table? I can get it to submit to my list no problem, but I have not been able to figure out how to do it without using the repeating table. I have several lookup fields to other data connections and a form library will not handle some of my needs. y the way I cannot use form services or the BDC.

Scott, what do you mean by "without using the repeating table"?

One of the last steps in the article you referenced above requires to you to add a repeating table. I would like to pass the information from a standard layout table instead. I have about 15 fields, 10 of which auto populate based on a data connection to either SQL or a SP list. The others are user controled. I would use a standard SharePoint form but I need the ability to do a "vLookup" type operation to fill in the other fields. Basically, user enters a Loan Number, it then pulls address, etc into the form. I have not seen a way to tell the repeating table that I want one field to look here vs there.
