 Hi,

           This might have asked several times in this forum but i didn't find the solution. I have a task in infopath which is having 2 views, one is user view who creates the purchase requisition and the other is manager view who approves the form. Whenever the user login to the portal and click the form it should show only the user view. He fills the form and send it to the approval, Then the manager logs in and open the form. This time it should show the filled datails in a manager view. To do this i got a beautiful link which is having the procedure. http://blogs.msdn.com/infopath/archive/2007/01/10/implementing-roles-in-browser-forms.aspx.  But here i was getting the formula error while setting up the fields value for current role. It was not accepting "name[username=CurrentUser]". Can anybody help me on this issue?

It's very easy to do by using conditional rules on Form Open without code.  Set your rules in Tools > Form Options > Open and Save > Rules.  Switch view according to the current user based off profile info or some other metadata in the form.  Here are 2 of my blog posts that give 2 ways of determining how to switch the view:

Was it forgetting the function parentheses? I.e. [username=CurrentUser()]

 Hi patrick,

                   I am not able to set the exact function like this  "name[username=CurrentUser]". Here in this function i am selecting all the fields from the XML data source as explained in the link that i have posted. But it was giving an error like "xdXDocument:GetDOM("Impo")/roles/role/my:CurrentUser" does not point to a valid location path of a field or group.

                   In the above error "Impo" is my XML data source name. "CurrentUser" is the field to which i had set up the "username()"  function.  The problem is with the "CunrrentRole" field to which i need to set the function like "name[username=CurrentUser]".

Here is my sample XML data source.

<roles>
    <role>
        <name>Sales</name>
        <users>
            <username>john</username>
            <username>jane</username>
        </users>
    </role>
    <role>
        <name>Management</name>
        <users>

Did you look at my methods?

Also, I want to be sure you're using userName() and not username().

 Yes warrtalon i am using userName() to get the current user in my first CurrentUser field. But "username" is the field in my XML data source. Both are different, i am using this "username" in the "CurrentRole" field not in the "CurrentUser" field.

               I can explain again if you are confused with this.

I'm confused, because this is _very_ simple and is explained in detail with my blog entries.  I'm not sure you've read them yet.  You don't need to use some separate XML file.  Use the data available to you in the profile database or in a Contacts list.
