Way to capture the creation date?

What I was trying to do is to have a function pull the system date to a text box and lock it so that it never refreshes when the infopath document is reopened or resaved. Is there a way that I can do that before the submission to the Sharepoint Document library because we want the document names to be lik

     concat(CustomerName, " - ", FrozenCreationDate)

I cannot use the function on the submit event since it will pull that date and for the approvers to approve the document spans multiple days thus creating mutliple versions and multliple workflows all for the same document.

     Suggestions? Thanks!

Simply create a field in your form, set its default value to the now() function, and uncheck "Update this value when the result of the formula is recalculated." and you should be all set.

I was thinking that before but was not sure if it would be updated on page load or not. I'll give it a whirl, thanks buddy!

That's what default values do.  They trigger as soon as the form loads, thus the unchecking of the update value box so that it doesn't change on subsequent form loads.

However, you may not want the time it was first opened, but rather the moment it was first submitted.  In that case, you'd have a rule in your submit button that sets this field to the value of "now()" and only on the condition that field is blank.
