Cannot seem to publish a form to SP

    Howdy

Well as my name states I am a sharepoint noob lol.  My company has recently challenged me to make sharepoint work for us and I intend to do just that.

I have a small issue at the moment....

After creating a form using Infopath...I save it to the site....a test user can open up the template...make changes...but when it comes to publishing, this is my problem.  The user goes to save the form and submit it to the site and only gets the option to save it to a directory somewhere.

Am I doing something wrong here?  I just watched a tutorial video and the video just showed the user hitting "save" and then submitting that form with changes to the site.

    Hi, and welcome:

There is a difference between 'save' and 'submit'. If a user saves a form, they can navigate about to save it (including to SharePoint -- type the URL of your ShP site in the filename dialog after hitting save, and you'll see what I mean). Submitting a form can mean a number of different things, because of the different types of submit connections you can create. You can create a submit data conneciton in your form that will submit the form to the library you've published the template to. Then, in the Form Options, you can disable the ability to Save or Save As.... This way the user has to use the Submit button, and the filled out form is submitted to the ShP site you specified in the submit connection.

This post at Office Online might help make this a bit clearer...

It sounds like SPnoob may not be publishing his form template to a form library and is just upload the template to a doc lib.  This will cause all sorts of problems, especially since it makes you think it works, but it doesn't.  You need to publish the form to a form library so that your template is set as the default for that library.  Your users will then click the New button and will be presented with a new, blank form based on your template.  You can then let them use the option to save or submit depending on how you want it to work.  I _only_ use a custom submit (no code), because I do not like my users typing in a filename.  The only time I use Save/SaveAs is when I am usint a meeting minutes template in a meeting workspace so that it can span across the recurring meetings.

Once you get the publish part working, then consider my blog post for auto-generating filenames in Infopath forms using "submit":
