browser enabled forms and database connectivity

    Hi

im new to infopath and been tasked with converting all our paper based forms to infopath and published to our sharepoint site. its key that all the forms are enabled to be opened in a browser from within sharepoint. one of the main drawbacks is that database connectivity is not supported in the browser enabled forms so my first query is how to get around this.

i believe the preference is to store all our forms data in a single sql server db so we can access it for reporting, extracts etc... and also we will want to connect to other company databases to populate some form controls like dropdowns to make data consistent and reduce user error.

ive been reading posts on here about using web services / sharepoint lists / data connection libraries and am a little confused as to the best way forward to implement our forms as we want.

there also seemed a restriction on using rich text / multi line text boxes when having a database connected form. is there a workaround for this also?

    would welcome any advice/suggestions.

    Hi

As per your requirement, i feel the best option is to use webservice to retrieve and submit data to DB.

Yes, for browser-enabled forms to interact that way with SQL, you will need to write web services that perform the actions you want.  This will require you to overcome the double-hop issue by creating the proper UDC files (data connections saved in a data connection library) as well as a single sign-on account.  This actually takes a LOT of configuration and testing, but it does work.  I got it to work on my own through much reading and searching online, but I don't have all of the steps handy to provide to you.

Many things are restricted in browser-enabled forms.  The way around it is to use the rich client for the most part.
