    Printing Repeating Tables

We are currently converting our forms into InfoPath. I have run in to a situation where we have a form that needs to be printed out in a specific way. In designing this form in InfoPath, I see where using a repeating table would be beneficial. However, the way the print view of the form has to be, there is only room on the form for the first 3 rows of the repeating table. If there are additional rows, they need to be displayed on a separate page. The only other problem might be that the location of this table would be in the middle of the form. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi David and welcome to our forums!

It seems you have hit the biggest limitation in InfoPath. This problem can be solved, but it is very complicated. The very first HowTo I wrote for this site actually specifies how to do it in InfoPath 2003 with JScript, so hopefully you can take the concepts presented there and make it work in your scenario.

Otherwise, you might want to look at a different way of printing the view - such as a report. You could make a report in Excel straight from the XML or you could shred the XML into a SQL database and then make an extremely pretty report with SRS. To shred the XML into SQL you will need our web service, which works out very well in this scenario:http://www.qdabra.com/proddetail.asp?prod=QDBXL1

Another Question. It doesn't matter about the number of entries on the main view. Is there a way to take the data from the entry view repeating table and seperate it into two separate tables (i.e. the first 3 entries to put on the first page, and the rest on a separate page). The first table would be fixed and the second one could be repeating.

    Hi David,

I'm not sure what you're asking, but you might try this:

    1. Drop an instance of the repeating node on the view and setup filtering to only show rows where position() <= 3.
    2. Drop another instance of the repeating node on the view and do filtering to display rows where position() > 3

Is that what you were asking?

Yes, That's it exactly. What I'm trying to figure out is on the "entry view", have the user enter their data on the "entry repating table". Then when the user goes to print the form, the print view would allow for the first 3 "rows" print on the first page, and then if there are any more "rows", then open up another repeating table and move the extra rows to the new repeating table. That table would be set up in the print view to print on a separate page. It might be a workaround. We're getting ready to start a large forms conversion project to infopath and I'm trying to see if I can take advantage of some of the special features of Infopath for the benefit of our users.
