Copy text/data from repeating section to repeating section

Hi...I have an form I have created in InfoPath 2003 with 1 repeating section. What I need is to supply the ability within a button, where the text entered into certain fields in the repeating section can be copied into the next repeating section to reduce the amount of data entry the user needs to do when filling out multiple repeating sections.

I have 7 of the 15 fields in the repeating section which I am allowing to be copied into the next repeating section and currently have this working using the following example for those 7 fields. The field name changes correspondingly for each of the 7 fields.

    Button Properties

    Rules

    Action: = "Set a field's Value"

    Field: = "Approver_Phone_Number"

    Value: = "Approver_Phone_Number[last()]"

This will consistently work fine for copying exactly the text from the first repeating section into all subsequent repeating sections. However I want it to copy only from the last repeating section added not the first one. Also if one of the 7 fields is changed in a newly added section it is changed back to duplicate the data entered in the first repeating section when the button is clicked to copy rather than simply copying the data from the last added repeating section.

I'm sure this is as confusing as it sounds and I am not using correct terminology as I am a newby but hopefully someone can help.

I have read many of the posts on here but have not been able to extract exactly what I need to solve this problem. My guess is I will need code to make this work rather than using rules but I don't know where to start. I have tried looking at several books on InfoPath but they are difficult to extract a solution from.

I have attached a screen shotsof the repeating section if that helps.

Thanks in advance for any help

Re: Copy text/data from repeating section to repeating section

Thanks Patrick...I've had a read through Hilary's blog but this relates to copying data from external .xml documents which I don't have. All the data is contained within the form. I am looking for a way to have the data the user has entered in the previous repeating section copied into the fields of the newly added repeating section so they don't have to type it again. I hope I am not missing something in Hilary's instructions that apply here.

    Thanks again

    Hi!

Actually, you can use the same technique to copy from one main data source group to another. The code will need to be modified a bit, of course. var Vehicles would be like var vehicleList in syntax, with Vehicles using the xpath to the group you want to copy from and vehicleList using the xpath to the group you want to copy to....

Re: Copy text/data from repeating section to repeating section

I've got a similar and yet different issue related to this one...

I've got an InfoPath 2007 browser enabled form that has a repeating section MeetingMinutes on it that contains a repeating table AttendeesList

when a user inserts an additional MeetingMinutes section onto the form I want to copy the prior MeetingMinutes > AttendeesList to the current instance AttendeesList as a starting point.

Any on this issue would be greatly appreciated
