InfoPath and 'Default Value' on a field changing

I was just wondering how people handled this situation:

I create a form, and typically put a 'date and time' control on the form, and have get a default value using 'now()'.

This works just fine, but if I reopen that form (from a SharePoint repository, or from a SQL DB) it repopulates that control with the current date/time, not the one that it was saved as.

How do people workaround this issue?

    Thanks!!

    Hi,

I have verified the same as you mentioned. It is working fine for me. Can you check are you setting that value from any where other than default value.

There is a checkbox in the properties for the field that you can select to prevent the field from updating when the formula is recalculated. Generally, though, instead of default values I use Open Rules. Set a condition on the rule to only fire if the field is blank and then set the value in the rule action.

Thanks for the help. I agree, I like the using the 'open rule' method.

I will start to use that for my forms.

    Thanks!
